My Bio (The Short Story)
I reached the top of the corporate ladder years ago with a career in marketing, but for the last year and a half I've started working part-time, mostly from home so that I could spend more time with my kiddos. In that time, I've started my own motivational blog, Long Run Ohm (I love writing!) and finally found my freedom to teach yoga how I love too at I Am Limitless! My appreciation and affection for yoga has grown over the last several years and I can't wait to share it with you! I truly value my students - they have taught me so much. Find me on the schedule!
My Class Style
I have two class styles. If you read my long story below, you'll discover the one style is more calming, stress-reducing related. My other style of class is a powerful, peaceful yet energizing Vinyasa.
My Favorite Quote
My favorite quote is, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."
The Long Story
My true love of yoga began about 5 years ago when my husband entered a 30-day rehab program for addiction. My daughter was three, my son was 6-months old, I was scared, lonely and the sole provider at that time. I had always practiced yoga on and off throughout my life, but after seeing how it helped calm my husband who served as a Marine for 10-years and suffers from PTSD, I knew it was going to play a bigger part in my life than I ever thought possible.
My husband told me that while in rehab the yoga sessions were one of the activities that really shifted his mindset and helped soothe his soul and body. We began practicing together and shortly after he was discharged and entered a yoga teacher training program. It was like a 6-month couples therapy session! We had no intentions of being teachers but knew it would benefit us in so many other ways and help us to mend all the brokenness we were facing. Yoga helped us to mend our broken hearts and minds - we continued to heal as a result of a regular practice.
Yoga for Mindful Resilience & Trauma Recovery
Once we graduated from the yoga training, I went on to teach yoga and have never looked back! I've taught at a few studios here in the area and have since done several other yoga workshops and training sessions to help me stay relevant in my teachings. One training in particular that I received is from the Veterans Yoga Project. Mindful Resilience for Trauma Recovery. It was one of the best yoga trainings I've experienced! And, it's not just for Veterans.
The program is designed for those that suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and several other mental health issues and trauma-related experiences. It combines breath, meditation, mindful movement, guided rest and gratitude. These tools are adapted and delivered to maximize students ability to undo the nervous system dysfunctions that underlie symptoms of stress-related conditions.
Variety Is The Spice of Life
The Mindful Resilience for Trauma Recovery is just one of many yoga styles that I teach. I also love teaching a peaceful, yet powerful and energy boosting style of class known as Vinyasa which combines movement with breath. I'm all about inspiring my students to go farther and reach for the stars - I love motivating and encouraging them! I also am tenderhearted and know the pain that life sometimes can bring. This is why yoga is such a perfect companion for life - it helps us explode with potential but also heals us from the hurt.
I welcome you and your friends or family members to my classes. I can't wait to meet and get to know each and every one of you!
XO,
Kelly
